Thursday, March 26th 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM at Merriam Christian Church

In-Person Anti-Racism/Pro-Reconciliation (AR/PR) 1.0 training is being offered Thursday, March 26th, from Thursday, March 26, 2026 10:00 am-4:00 pm, Merriam Christian Church.

This training will be followed later this year by 2.0 and 3.0 - each building on the previous training.  Clergy only need to complete one of the three offerings to fulfill AR/PR training requirements for Standing Renewal.

AR/PR 1.0 introduces clergy and lay leaders to the systemic nature of racism, see racism as sin, acknowledge the presence of racism today, and recognize ways in which we as individuals and churches function within systemic racism.  The curriculum was developed by the Reconciliation Ministry of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Rev. Sheryl Tucker and Rev. William Rose-Heim lead this session and received their facilitator training from Rev. Dr. Sandhya Jha and Rev. Dr. Nathan Hill.

A $35 fee includes lunch, workbooks, and an annotated bibliography of resources and organizations active in the work of anti-racism.

The fee can be paid via check made out to CC of GKC and mailed to CC of GKC Office, 9401 Johnson Dr, Merriam, KS, 66203. Or can be paid the day of the training.

This session will be recorded for anyone wanting to take 2.0 or 3.0.  While the in-person session does fulfill AR/PR training for Standing Renewal, watching the recording will not count toward AR/PR training.

Future Sessions:

AR/PR 2.0 focuses on contextualizing racism locally.  We move from broad concepts to evidence of dynamics of systemic racism within the KC Metro and successful efforts to make progress toward justice.  It will include an introduction to the new BARC (Becoming an Anti-racist Congregation) program.  Date/Location TBD

AR/PR 3.0 focuses on accountability for movement.  We will look at how leadership in the Civil Rights movement used supportive accountability (including mentoring and coaching) to the benefit of themselves, their colleagues, and their work actually moving the needle more toward justice.  Date/Location TBD
